I may have not been able to make it to my Grandma's funeral, nonetheless, I do have a story worth sharing here. I had initially shared this with Andrea, Gramma's beautiful niece. :) So, Gramma always had a real tender love for babies and children. In loving them with all of her heart. When my son Bruce was only 2 or 3 years old, we had stopped out to visit Gramma & Grampa one weekend on their farm. Bruce must have had an extra sugar-high that day, because he left tiny sticky fingerprints all over the entryway door into the kitchen... likely from running around the house and constantly going in and out that door... suckers in hand, of course. Long story short, Gramma told us she would "never, ever wash such a precious memory of Bruce and his tiny, sticky handprints off that door!" :) As the years went by, I had completey forgotten about it. After several more years had passed, and Gramma & Grampa moved into Boulder, my mom & I "re-discovered" Bruce's tiny little handprints there! Completey untouched, forever unwashed, and marked out in time. P.S: as a point of reference, those sticky little handprints were 10 years old by the time we "found" them again.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your mom! I used to work at Schotts and she could work circles around most of us!!! She made the best danged Belgium cookies ever!!!!! Thoughts and prayers.... Brenda Alley

I wanted to share a little of what I admired about Grandma. I will always remember her as being an excellent cook (who would forbid you to leave her house with an empty stomach or unfinished plate of pie) and an extremely hard worker. Always busy. The days when we both worked at Schott's in Minneota will forever be held in my memory. I remember feeling so filled with joy to be able to shout "Hi Grandma" as she was leaving her shift and I was just beginning mine. I remember wondering why she wanted to work there, especially in her golden years and also, when she didn't really need to. It was as if DECADES of caring for, cooking for, and serving everyone wasn't enough. Also, she rarely showed up to work empty handed. The break room was always adorned with her beautiful handmade doilies, Aunt Sally's, Belgian Waffles, and other goodies...all of which sold like hotcakes! It was her time to shine, and she really did! I think of Grandma as a virtuous woman and, I believe, Proverbs 31: 25-27 describes her well. "Strength and honor are her clothing: She shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness." Her wrought iron strength and resilience showed through even in her last few days/weeks on this earth. Her days of serving are finished and she can finally rest in peace in the arms of our Father.

So many thoughts and feelings have been flooding my mind, that it is hard to know where to begin! So i will just put a few that come to my mind. For twelve years I rode the bus home from school- and I was close to the last person to be dropped off. Naturally I was starving by the time I got home!! Usually there were homemade monster cookies in the old brown cookie jar- or Ginger-snaps, some times there was some other homemade snack- or mom would tell me to make cinnamon toast. But once in a while, Id come drudging in the door and the smell of hot flat-bread, frying in oil, would hit me in the face! Oh! There was no better smell or treat!! It was like coming home to heaven! Another thing about Mom, was that she never got in the big discussions about life, death and all the other topics in life that we discussed to no end, with my Dad. But mom would listen, to my complaints about school or whatever and she would always say one of two things- either don't worry itll all come out in the wash. Or this too shall pass. And some how, because Mom said it, I knew things would be ok. To this day - these come to mind when I am worrying about things. Also Mom didnt say I love you much when I was a kid. - Mom felt we knew it by her actions. But after I moved away and got married - Id tell her I love you Mom when I was done talking to her on the phone- and shed always reply I love you more! She taught me so much, and was so hard working and humble. She always put everyone else before herself. She also said you shouldnt bragg about yourself, but do good always, And let someone else say something good about you. So Mom, I am bragging about you! You were a wonderful Mother, and I feel so lucky to have you as mine!! - (the quotion marks, and some other punctuation does not show up on this site)
